The Formula 4 South East Asia Championship – fueled by Petron – is quarter way through its 2018 season. The first two events held at the Sepang International Circuit have been making waves on social media and throughout the motorsport community – thanks to the brilliant teamwork and expertise of the lads of MERITUS.GP. Let’s take a brief look at some of these faces.
MERITUS.GP has stood the test of time and has been at the forefront of creating international motorsport heroes since 1996, as well as building and nurturing the careers of its dedicated fraternity of engineers and mechanics.
First up I would like to present Team Manager, Sharli Mohammad. Sharli has been with the team for over 20 years and has amassed much knowledge that he readily shares with his platoon of mechanics and engineers.
“Over the years, I’ve worked in the various formulae which MERITUS.GP has contested, right up to GP2 Asia. The team has been invaluable in helping me grow as an engineer in this industry and continues to specialise in training enthusiastic technicians and taking them to the top of the sport,” explained Sharli.
Second in command is the team’s chief mechanic – Mohammad Shah Effendy – affectionately known to most as ‘Pico.’ This young professional has been with MERITUS.GP for a little over 5 years now and walked away with the ‘Mechanic of the Year’ trophy at the team’s recent awards ceremony. Pico has always had a love for racing and motorsports and has made great strides in improving his craft. He says the team is a great avenue for him to put his talents to good use.
Now we come to the first of the team’s Data Engineers: Mohammad Azizul Azfar, or ‘Affa’ as he’s known, truly has gasoline flowing through his veins and aspires to improve his aptitude through the various daily challenges that the regional F4 championship presents.
“The Formula 4 SEA Championship was my maiden encounter with the sport and in the very short time I’ve been with the team, they’ve greatly helped me to navigate my learning curve in my role as a Data Engineer,” says Affa, another prize-winner at the 2018 Meritus Awards Gala.
Meanwhile, Tan Lip Han, a British-educated Engineer, chose MERITUS.GP as his pioneering step into the high-octane world of motorsport engineering. The Kedah-native was born with a passion for speed and has since taken on a multitude of responsibilities, both on and off the track. He believes that MERITUS.GP and F4 SEA are steps in the right direction to advance the careers of young professionals.
Joining the duo is Nik Ahmad Shahmmin, an equally-dedicated Data Engineer of many years who re-joins the team following his further education overseas.
Finally, it is veteran professionals like well-respected technician Chandra Subramaniam who set the pace for the future, having returned to the team with a wealth of experience.
The opportunities created by MERITUS.GP help to profile and promote Asia as a credible and cost-effective motorsport market. The career advancement possibilities here are not just available to Asian talents; everybody has equal opportunity to climb to new heights of success.
This was illustrated when the team honoured exceptional individuals who’ve helped make the past F4 season a resounding success at the MERITUS Awards Gala.
