While Formula 4 South East Asia continued its current action-packed series with Event 4 at the Sepang International Circuit, a handful of past F4 SEA drivers had their own battle in the sub-continent of India.
Presley Martono was at the Madras Motor Race Track for the final event in the 2017-18 MRF Challenge last weekend, 4th and 5th of February.
The inaugural Formula 4 South East Asia overall champion took pole position and qualified ahead of Brazilian MRF score leader Felipe Drugovich. Joining him were fellow MERITUS.GP drivers Nazim Azman, Danial Frost and Presley’s compatriot, Perdana Putra Minang.
Presley crossed the line second in the first race, ahead of Drugovich, but this gave the Brazilian enough points to cement the championship win. While Presley narrowly missed out the championship to Drugovich, he put up a good fight for the vice-championship, beating his ex F4 SEA colleague Danial Frost to first place in Race 2.
By the end of the weekend Presley had beaten Julien Falchero by just enough points to finish second in the championship, seven points behind Drugovich and ahead of former F4 SEA drivers Danial Frost, Nazim Azman and Perdana Putra Minang.
“I’m always focusing on how to improve my performance. One of my mistakes was not asking more questions. After looking at my race data, my performance started to improve which was a good step, but I faced tough opposition from van Kalmthout and even Danial (Frost),” Presley told Motorsport.com
