FIA Formula 4 South East Asia – fueled by Petron – announces the schedule for the 2017-18 F4 SEA season finale, with a six-race programme between 13-15 April 2018. The event will support the Malaysian Championship Series (MCS), at the world-famous Sepang International Circuit.
“Sepang has a packed race programme for the final event of the F4SEA 2017 season. Our young racers are delighted to be supporting two world-class series, the Blancpain GT Asia Series as well as the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia series, both part of the Sepang-promoted Malaysian Championship Series (MCS). With a six-race programme, the F4SEA finale promises to provide our global F4 fans with lots more of the non-stop action seen in our previous 23 races,” said Formula 4 SEA Promoter Peter Thompson.
Free Practice kicks off Friday morning followed by a 30-minute Qualifying at 12:30. Each driver’s first fastest lap will determine his starting grid for Race 1 (with the second fastest lap setting the grid for race 4) which is scheduled for Friday at 1745. Races 2 and 3 are on the agenda for Saturday, while the remaining three races of the 2017-18 Championship will conclude the weekend’s Sunday programme. The full weekend schedule is listed on the Formula4.asia (https://formula4.asia) website.
The championship kicked off the season at the Finale of the Malaysian F1 Grand Prix in September 2017, followed by a visit to the Clark International Speedway in the Philippines. January 2018 saw F4 SEA race in Buriram Thailand on Children’s Day, following which the cars and team returned home to Malaysia where Event 4 was staged supporting the Asian Le Mans Series.
Daniel Cao of China is currently leading the points tally going into the final event, with two Event Champion Titles to his name. But Ugo De Wilde of Belgium and Malaysia’s Mitchell Cheah are not far behind with one Event Championship win each. The driver to watch at the last event was Kane Shepherd who is set to make a hat trick of wins.
With the FIA F4SEA Driver Champion yet to be crowned, the finals will also determine the FIA Formula 4 SEA Rookie Champion. Bangkok-native Kane Shepherd, who has been best rookie at each event so far, looks to be in a strong position to win.
The success of the F4 SEA 2017-18 Championship is thanks in part to the strategic partnership with Petron, our official fuel and engine oil supplier.
“F4 SEA is exclusively using Petron’s performance products such as Blaze Racing Engine Oil and Blaze 100 RON for peak performance” advised Thompson.
The fifth and final battle will not only display the amazing talents of the FIA-certified championship contenders but will also give these young, up-and-coming professional racers an opportunity to earn FIA Super License Points, allowing them to graduate to the highest echelons of motorsport such as F1, LMP1 and GT1.
