Formula 4 South East Asia (F4 SEA) – fuelled by Petron – 30th November 2018: As is the fashion with the double-event format that F4 SEA has adopted this year, the final round of the 2018 championship will be held at the Sepang International Circuit, supporting the Malaysian Speed Festival. Last time out Muizz Musyaffa set the fastest time in free practice and Kane Shepherd put himself on pole in qualifying before Alessandro Ghiretti found his pace in the first race and stole the show from there going three-for-three to score a perfect weekend. We know from last week that Malaysia and Thailand both have the pace, so we can’t wait to see who’s on top this weekend
- 3-Race weekend live streamed from the Sepang International Circuit
- Ghiretti, Shepherd and Musyaffa fight for the final event champions trophy
- Allen looking for P1 this time around
- Shihab Al Habsi and Louie Westover join to gain more experience
- If there’s 1 thing MERITUS team boss Peter Thompson can be quoted as saying, it’s that “whoever is fastest in Sepang always wins the championship.” With that in mind it should be an interesting weekend as Muizz Musyaffa the Malaysian rocket set the fastest time in two out of three races last week!
Of course, Kane Shepherd will have something to say about that. The Thai who took home the rookie trophy last year has been fighting it out with Ghiretti at the front of the pack all season. Sepang seems to fit Kane’s driving style as he was back on pole in the last event so we cant wait to see what he’ll show us this time out.
But Alessandro Ghiretti isn’t likely to ease up. The flying French main is nothing if not determined! He’s hit the track testing everyday during the interval and even made time to jump in an F3 Asia car, perhaps indicating his plans for the new year. With the super license points he is likely to gain from winning F4 SEA, F3 would certainly be the next step for the Formula 1 hopeful.
Another name to remember is Lucca Allen, the Irish driver joined us last week from F4 UK, doing well to keep second place in the second race of the weekend and challenging Ghiretti, Shepherd and Musyaffa for position.
As seems to be the norm in F4 SEA, several more drivers have joined the finals, perhaps looking to repeat Ghiretti and Shepherd’s winning tactic from years gone by, namely Shihab Al Habsi and Louie Westover. With all these young guns aiming for the top, F4 SEA is set for another fantastic weekend so be sure to watch the action live on our facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Formula4SEA/.
