From the 23rd-25th November 2018 F4 SEA will return home to the Sepang International Circuit, supporting the Sepang 1000km alongside Formula 3. With 2 events to go, Alessandro Ghiretti is on top of the standings, but Kane Shepherd is right on his tail and Malaysia’s very own star Muizz Musyaffa is sure to make things interesting on home soil.
- Battle for the championship down to the wire
- Musyaffa vows return to top spot
- Shepherd looks to clinch title
- Ghiretti confident with his team
- New talent joins
- 3-Race weekend livestreamed from the Sepang International Circuit
Earlier this year we saw Kane Shepherd dominate in Sepang, winning 2 event championships here at the start of the season – a performance the Thai driver will have to repeat if he hopes to beat the man at the front of the pack, Alessandro Ghiretti. The ‘Flying Frenchman’ had a fantastic weekend in Thailand, winning 5 out of 6 races, putting him squarely in the lead, but not out of reach for the Shepherd of Thailand.
The duo have been battling it out all year and that’s sure to continue this event and into the finals as well, but we’ve seen that the Malaysia’s Muizz Musyaffa has the uncanny ability to win the last race of each event and he’s regularly the fastest man on track. The young driver has seen some bad luck see him just out of the top spot, but back in Malaysia he’s got the home advantage and he plans to put it to use to stand atop the podium every race!
Another Malaysian, Alister Yoong, might just be the wild card this round. The son of Malaysia’s first F1 driver, Alister took his first win back in the tour of India and found his pace in the last race in Thailand. The Malaysian was challenging Kane Shepherd for the lead until a collision saw him damage his wing and finish second, so he might just upset things this weekend.
It seems to be the trend that future F4 victors test the waters by joining the finals the year before they compete, Kane Shepherd did it in 2016, Alessandro Ghiretti in 2017 and perhaps history will repeat with several new faces in the pit lane including Lucca Allen, Malthe Jakobsen, Emily Linscott and Shahkirah Shaharul.
Irish Kart Champion Lucca joins us after a successful year in British F4 to get a little more experience before the new year. From the same neck of the woods, Emily Linscott visits Malaysia for the first time after starting her motorsport career in Ghiretti junior earlier this year. Malthe Jakobsen comes to us from Holland while Shahkirah Shaharul takes the opportunity to join the championship on home turf.
With several new drivers set to prove themselves and the returning favourites fighting for the championship, its sure to be an exciting event as always so be sure to tune in to watch it live on our Facebook page facebook.com/Formula4SEA!
